Hiking Trails Costa Rica: Walk, Breathe, and Reset in the Heart of Nature
Step Into the Forest and Leave the World Behind
If your ideal escape involves winding forest trails, riverside paths, and the quiet thrill of spotting wildlife in the wild, you’re in the right place. Nestled in the green highlands near Turrialba, our hiking experience offers more than just beautiful views. It’s a chance to reconnect with the land beneath your feet and the calm inside your mind.
Some guests come for a light morning walk and coffee by a stream. Others lace up for longer treks that climb through jungle trails and open into sweeping mountain views. No matter your pace, the trails here invite you to slow down, look around, and truly breathe.
Why Hike Here
At 1,000 meters above sea level, the climate is one of the first things you’ll notice, cool mornings, sun-warmed afternoons, and fresh air that keeps every step comfortable. Unlike coastal heat or crowded resort paths, our highland setting gives you space, shade, and silence.
The forest is alive here, with birdsong, butterflies, and the distant sound of river water. You’ll pass old coffee plants, fruit trees, and wildflowers along the way. And when you’re ready to rest, you’re never far from a view, a shady rock, or the soft rush of the Tuis River.
Trails for All Levels
Whether you’re looking for a gentle nature walk or a half-day hike through rugged terrain, our trail network has something for every explorer.
Some paths stay close to the lodges, perfect for morning walks or photo ops. Others loop into the hills, crossing streams, climbing ridges, and offering panoramic views of the valley below. You can hike solo, use one of our trail maps, or ask our staff for a few pointers before you set off.
We’ve seen families with kids take their first jungle walk here, and seasoned hikers return from a full-day loop with muddy boots and wide smiles. The trails are what you make of them, wild, welcoming, and always worth exploring.

Little Things Hikers Love
It’s not just the scenery that makes hiking here memorable, it’s the small, simple pleasures along the way:
- Coffee & Misty Mornings : Wake up early, sip strong estate-grown coffee, and watch the mist lift off the hills before you head out on your walk.
- Post-Hike Pool Time : There’s nothing like kicking off your boots and cooling down in the spring-fed pool after a long trail day.
- Sounds of the Wild : Instead of city noise, you’ll hike to the sounds of birds, frogs, wind, and water. Many guests say it’s the quietest place they’ve ever felt so alive.
- Wildlife on the Trail : Keep your eyes open for sloths, toucans, butterflies, and even the occasional coati. The trails are full of life, and always surprising.
- No Rush, No Crowds : Unlike busy national parks, you’ll rarely share the path here. That means no rush, no noise, just your footsteps and the forest.
How to Get Here
We’re located about 25 minutes from Turrialba, in Costa Rica’s beautiful central highlands. The final stretch of road is partially unpaved, but guests frequently arrive in standard vehicles. That said, a 4×4 makes the ride smoother, especially in the rainy season.
Most guests fly into San José International Airport (SJO) and enjoy the scenic two-hour drive to our retreat. If you’d prefer not to drive, we’re happy to help arrange a private shuttle or taxi, just ask when booking.
