True to its name, this medium-sized songbird (about 20 cm) is dressed in an impressive shade of slate gray. But it’s not just any gray; it’s a rich, smoky tone that seems to change under the dappled light filtering through the rainforest canopy.

The bird’s elegance is further accentuated by a pristine white patch on its throat, creating a stark contrast with the dark plumage. This striking combination, the cool slate gray and the bright white, gives the Slate-colored Grosbeak a distinguished air.

A Flash of Red
