Unlike other woodcreepers, it forages on the upper surface of branches, rather than the underside. But the true giveaway is the impressive beak of the Cocoa Woodcreeper. Long, rather thick, and almost straight, it sports a pale grayish hue with fleshy tones. The upper edge, however, is slightly darker, hinting at the strength this beak possesses.
