Hotel Rivel is a unique and special place. It is a non-profit organization run by an incredible team of Costa Ricans. I originally purchased this jungle oasis as a potential future retirement destination but I selfishly experience more happiness from sharing it with guests and family.
Hotel Rivel is a haven where you can relax, rejuvenate, and connect with nature. We feature a full restaurant, private lodges, a fresh water infinity pool, as well as thousands of fruit trees and coffee plants. You can pick your own fresh fruit and eggs from our free-range chickens.
I personally guarantee that you will find the ultimate reset at Hotel Rivel. There’s nothing in your life that can’t be solved by spending a week here.

Birding Retreat
The unique position of our retreat is the perfect location to spot nearly 600 different Costa Rican birds species. Some of the rarest species in the world can be spotted here. The huge open space and deep valley positioning gives plenty of time for amateurs and pros to catch that perfect photo. Waterfall Pool
A guest favourite. This large infinity pool is constantly filled with fresh spring water from the green mountains of Costa Rica. The water is so clean you can drink it. This is a truly unique and incredibly refreshing experience. No salt. No chemicals. Pure Water.
Horseback Riding

Restaurant & Bar
Full service indoor and outdoor restaurant & bar is available at the property. Guests can enjoy cocktails, beer, wine and we serve our very own coffee that was planted and harvested from the property. We also have our very own mixologist!
Natural Pools
There are plenty of natural springs on the property and guests are free to roam and discover them as they wish. The Tuis River borders the property and there are plenty of perfect places to have a picnic and enjoy the warm Costa Rican sun.
Perfect Temperature
Our retreat is located 1000 meters above sea level. That means our property has spring-like weather year round! The average low throughout the year is 19 degrees and the average high sits around 29 degrees (Celsius).

Such a peaceful place. The staff is so kind and helpful (you're the best, Carlos!) and the location is unbeatable. We swam in the pool, hiked the trails, and enjoyed the tranquility of the cabin. The cabins are well-built and cozy. We had a 4x2, not a 4x4, and had no problem getting up the road to the property. I would love to visit again and would recommend it to anyone who wants to disappear in nature for a few days. (The wifi also worked wonderfully if you don't want to disconnect completely).
Beautiful location. Everyone working there was so kind and helpful, really did extra to make the stay special. Excellent food. Lots of opportunities to be in and watch nature.

It’s all in the name! Adventure and nature retreat is the best way to describe it. I stayed here for a week in March and I was not disappointed. This place exceeded my expectations with the gorgeous views, waterfalls, and hiking trails. They even provided mountain bikes, so you can be as adventurous as you want to be. Meditating with the soothing sounds of a flowing stream and waterfall is something everyone should experience at least once in their lives! This is a great place for reflection and to feel rejuvenated by connecting with nature. The cabin I stayed in was comfortable and very clean, it even had its own modem so WiFi was never an issue. I definitely recommend this place to anyone looking to reset, refresh and refuel!
Hotel Rivel was just what I was expecting and more. I'm a very outdoor person so being in the mountains and having access to a mountain bike was exactly what I needed. The room was so cozy and I love all of the person touches like the adaptors and especially the fresh bananas hanging at the front! I've never experienced anything like it. The staff were so pleasant and this property has so much to explore. The pool with the waterfall was incredible and I loved hiking and biking on the trails. It's the perfect place for peace and if you're looking for it, adventure!! Not to mention, the wifi connection was surprisingly strong! I could easily stream and catch up on work emails when I needed to! Great value!
Location! Location! Location! I loved being able to connect with nature at every turn. Beautiful waterfalls and hiking trails to explore. Absolutely marvelous views. Very cozy cabins. My favorite place to hang out was at the beautiful natural pool with a waterfall. You just can't find that on a resort! If you're looking for a one of a kind adventure in the beautiful mountainous landscape of Costa Rica, this is your spot. Definitely visiting again in the near future. Pura Vida!!
I loved the fully equipped and modern cabins! The numerous options for hikes, river trekking, waterfalls, natural pools and breathtaking sights! The owner and staff are super attentive and always helpful! There is a natural pool and waterfall onsite. The lazy river whooshes and burbles you to sleep. We spotted a sloth! And lots of mountain bikes and trails to choose from based on your comfort level! Also there's wifi in each cabin - which allowed me to take a few work meetings while away :p
The enclave of the hotel is a wonder where you can enjoy nature in pure condition. The access road can be difficult on some stretches but it is worth it.
The staff made us feel like family especially bartender Joel, Cristel, the pizza chef, and the rest of the staff. They were kind enough to explain some plants and aspects of the culture of the region, popular festivities and traditions to us. Food was fantastic.

The environment is spectacular, the best way to disconnect from the daily life.

The food is delicious and excellent value for money.
One of the hotels I have liked the most in Costa Rica. The room is tiny but not uncomfortable and is also well equipped: binoculars, spotlight, board games and even a speaker for music. The managers are super friendly and sooo attentive, an unbeatable service. The grounds have trails, and obviously the river is one of the best things, perfect to cool off. The breakfast was very complete and also our dinner was delicious.
Everything! Best hidden gem in Costa Rica! Everything felt like a retreat, Crystel and the chef Carlos were fantastic! Beautiful surroundings! Fantastic trails, delicious food and the cabin had everything you need. The front of glass so you can look out over the beautiful surroundings. Evening You'll be enchanted by thousands of fireflies giving a light show. 4x4 definitely a must to get there. It's not exactly marked, but you drive up the C.Rivel along the river until you can't move on. Google maps are halfway messed up, but you drive 3.5 uphill and then you get rewarded with the most amazing place in Costa Rica! Definitely a must for the real traveller. The photos on booking.com do not reflect this fantastic place. So in real life much and much more beautiful.
